Hi All
The annotation of 'substrate binding' using GO is a complex issue
which has aroused much debate between members of the 'binding working
group'. The outcome of these discussions may have a major impact on
the way annotators interpret the papers they are reading, and the
future uses of GO. Consequently we have set up a survey to find out
from GO annotators what would be the most appropriate information to
capture from experiments which provide evidence of 'binding'. It may
not be possible to implement the favored decision in it's entirety,
but this survey will lead to a more focused future debate. If you do
not have time to consider all 7 questions in the survey please just
answer question 1.
The results from this survey will be discussed at the Reference Genome
conference call on Tuesday 9th June (8 AM PDT, 10 AM CDT, 11 AM EST, 4
PM BST), so please try to complete the survey by the end of Monday 8th
June.
It is possible to go back and edit a submitted survey (and resubmit
using the 'done' button), which you may want to do after the
conference call discussion. The survey will be open after the
conference call on Tuesday and will be used to inform the 'binding
working group' discussions, however we would urge you to complete the
survey sooner rather than later to ensure your views are counted!
The survey is at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=A0B2eXQRXLzUcvYGFmGL1w_3d_3d
Parts of the working group discussion are represented on: http://wiki.geneontology.org/index.php/Binding_terms_working_group
There are plans to circulate this survey, or a newer version to a
wider selection of GO users in the future.
Thanks
Ruth
