Processes by which...

Hi,
At the consortium meeting, when we were discussing the
meaning of the term 'development', David commented on the
fact that all the development terms are defined as
'Processes by which...' or 'Processes aimed at...'.
Do you think these ought to have the singular 'process', as
in 'The process by which...' and 'The process aimed at...'?
I'm just wondering since we agreed that we shouldn't have
'collector terms' and I do think that having these terms
defined this way could cause confusion.
Thanks,
Jen
