From dave.burt at bbsrc.ac.uk Wed May 3 11:45:53 2006 From: dave.burt at bbsrc.ac.uk (dave burt (RI)) Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 19:45:53 +0100 Subject: new sub-committees for chicken genome consortium gene ontology and gene nomenclature Message-ID: <84DA9D8AC9B05F4B889E7C70238CB451025EE0E1@rie2ksrv1.ri.bbsrc.ac.uk> Dear chicken biologists A few weeks back I sent out a request for support for the "chicken GO consortium" - many thanks for the huge support - grants now submitted so now its in the laps of the gods! Many thanks to everyone. Next week we will be holding the 4th chicken genome workshop, at Cold Spring Harbor (see http://meetings.cshl.edu/meetings/chick06.shtml) If you cannot attend, we would appreciate your views and input on the formation of two new sub-committees to coordinate activities. 1. "Chcken GO consortium" to coordinate gene ontology annotations - so far we have Roslin, Agbase, GOA (at EBI), Uppsala, Stowers... as initial members - if you want to take on an active role - let me know 2. "Chicken gene nomenclature committee" - to coordinate the assignment of gene names and descriptions - this will also involve the assignment of gene orthologues - so far we have Roslin, Wageningen... with advice from HGNC - again, if you want to take on an active role - let me know Dave PS: reply to Dave.Burt at bbsrc.ac.uk, so we do not over run our colleagues email boxes this time From kchris at genome.Stanford.EDU Wed May 10 09:45:35 2006 From: kchris at genome.Stanford.EDU (Karen Christie) Date: Wed, 10 May 2006 09:45:35 -0700 (PDT) Subject: May 17 Advanced Reg Deadline: GO Annotation Training July 12-14 In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Hello, If you are interested in attending the GO Annotation Camp to be held at Stanford University this summer, please note that the Advance Registration deadline of May 17th is fast approaching. If you register by May 17th, the cost of your lodging will be covered by the Stanford Genetics Department. Registration will remain open until June 23rd, but those registering after May 17th will be responsible for the cost of their own lodging. The training portion of the Camp will be three days long from 9 am Wednesday, July 12th until 5pm on Friday, July 14th. Below there are links to the working schedule, general information, and the registration page. Similarly to the 2005 GO Annotation Camp, this will be a practical workshop focusing on the process of making GO annotations from the research literature. Much of our time will be spent reading research articles and using tools to browse the ontologies to determine as a group the appropriate GO annotations that can be made from a given paper. Note that this workshop will NOT deal with any bioinformatic methods including automated or computational methods of making GO annotations via sequence similarity comparisons. Registration is required for organizational purposes, but there is NO registration fee. If you register by May 17th, the Stanford Genetics Department will cover your lodging costs provided you make your reservation with one of our designated hotels. If you register later than May 17th, you are still welcome to attend, but we will not cover your lodging costs. General information, the working schedule, and the registration form are available from the links below. Working Schedule: http://www.geneontology.org/meeting/AnnotCamp2006sched.shtml General Information: http://www.geneontology.org/meeting/AnnotCamp2006info.shtml Registration Form: http://www.geneontology.org/meeting/AnnotCamp2006reg.shtml If you would like to attend the training portion of the camp, please register as soon as possible to facilitate our planning, and no later than May 17th if you wish for us to cover your lodging costs. If you will cover your own lodging costs, you may register until June 23rd. If you have any questions, please contact me (kchris at genome.stanford.edu).
