The proposal has been made to obsolete GO:0033589: Elongator core complex.
There exist today annotations to this term as follows (data from AmiGO):
* HGNC: 3 objects
The reasons for this proposal are that having 2 terms for the Elongator
complex: Elongator holoenzyme complex and
Elongator core complex, is a little misleading. The evidence from PMID:
17018299 and PMID:11689709 is that all six subunits function together. The
6-subunit complex can be dissociated into 2 3-subunit complexes, but
neither of those subcomplexes has been shown to function as a core enzyme
or core complex. At this point it doesn't seem to be known what the 2
subcomplexes do; the function of the 6-subunit elongator complex involves
tRNA modification.
We propose to obsolete GO:0033589: Elongator core complex,
and remove the last sentence of the definition for GO:0033588 Elongator
holoenzyme complex:
A heterohexameric protein complex that is involved in tRNA modification,
and exerts indirect effects on transcriptional elongation and exocytosis.
The complex can associate physically with hyperphosphorylated RNA
polymerase II; it contains two discrete heterotrimeric subcomplexes. In
Saccharomyces, the core complex consists of Iki3p/Elp1p, Elp2p, and Elp3p,
and the other consists of Elp4p, Iki1p/Elp5p, and Elp6p.

UNLESS OBJECTIONS ARE RECEIVED BY 6th December WE WILL ASSUME THAT YOU
AGREE TO THIS CHANGE.
