Dear GO,
The proposal has been made to obsolete
mutagenesis ; GO:0006280
Annotations to GO:0006280 exist as listed below:
DB total
CGD 5 (all IEA)
dictyBase 1 (ISS)
GOA_human 1 (TAS)
GOA_uniprot 17 (all IEA)
SGD 13 (several codes; no IEA)
tigr_Banthracis 1 (ISS)
tigr_Soneidensis 3 (all ISS)
WB 5 (all IMP)
The reason for obsoleting this term is that mutagenesis is not a valid
biological process in which gene products would normally participate.
Rather, mutations arise from DNA replication errors or damage by an
extrinsic agent. Terms suggested for annotation updates:
DNA repair ; GO:0006281
chromosome organization and biogenesis ; GO:0051276
This term is in the prokaryote subset, but not in any GO slims maintained
in the gene_ontology_write.obo file. It is used in one external mapping:
spkw2go:SP_KW:KW-0741 SOS mutagenesis > GO:mutagenesis ; GO:0006280

Comment period ends on May 28, 2008.
*** Unless objections are received by May 28,
we will assume that you agree to this change. ***
Thanks,
Midori
